On Thursday 1st February 2018 , St Uny C of E Academy embraced ‘Time to Talk’ Day - a chance for all of us to be more open about mental health – to talk, to listen and to change lives. Too many people with mental health problems are made to feel isolated, worthless and ashamed but at our school we want to take away the stigma and make our community feel like they can discuss how they are feeling without being judged. Each class had their own conversations about how to deal with feelings and how to improve mental health and well-being. Activities ranged from mindful Minecraft yoga, to learning how to read body language as well as how to be more welcoming with words and actions. The school day ended with a performance of ‘Beauty and the Beast’ by M and M productions where the children took time to laugh, spend time with friends and relax – important contributors to positive mental health. The same evening, staff took part in an adult yoga session as we believe happy staff = happy children.
Next week, we continue with our drive to raise the profile of mental health with our daily collective worship sessions focusing on this subject, a quiz for families in the evening, a teachers vs pupils hockey match and a sponsored run – all raising funds for MIND; one of the country’s leading mental health charities.
