Y6

Welcome to Y6!

Y6 this year are already working hard to prepare for SATs, but we are having as much fun as possible while we are learning too. Our teacher is Miss Hill, and our teaching assistant is Miss Worsey, who is new to the school but is  doing a brilliant job at supporting the children in their learning. English and maths lessons will be focussed on end of year attainment, while containing as much of our theme learning as possible.

Our theme for this half term is Voyages of Discovery, which focuses on the lives and teachings of Charles Darwin and John Wesley. We will be looking at the journeys they took around the World and also within their own lives, and how they changed the way that people think. Science and RE lessons will look at how Creationism and Darwinism can conflict, and whether there is a viewpoint that exists happily between the two. Children will be encouraged to share their own opinions and listen respectfully to others. In Geography we will look at World exploration and Darwin's journeys. This half term also includes our participation in St Ives Feast Day on 5th February, where Y6 and Y5 will dance through town to celebrate St Ia. PE will include dance practice and also football drills outside when the weather is kind to us. If you would like your child to wear tracksuit bottoms or leggings to keep out the cold please send them in - but be warned that they will get muddy! Please ensure that PE kit is in school at all times.

Y6 homework is now based on revision books. A list of dates and requirements has come home with your children already, and there is also a copy on this page. There will be a creative homework grid too - this is purely optional and designed to enable the children to explore their class theme creatively should they wish to. Revision homework is not a test - it is so that the children and I can see what they need to be taught next. If your child cannot complete a certain aspect of the revision book, please write a note in their communication book and we will go over it in school. Above all do not worry!
