Welcome to Reception. The teacher in our class is Miss Thomas and our teaching assistant is Miss Knight. Mrs Everitt works in our class on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons and Miss Blake, a teaching student, is also with us this term.
In our class we learn through play based activities that are planned around our interests. We take part in child-initiated activities as well as adult led activities.
Last term we created 3D mind map in groups, which Miss Thomas has used to plan subsequent lessons and fun activities around the theme of 'Spring'. We were very interested in planting and different life cycles such as caterpillars and frogs. We have spent some time learning about flowers and how to plant seeds with David, our outdoor learning volunteer. We have watched our plants flourish in the poly tunnel and have just recently taken them home to plant in our own pots or gardens! We are currently learning about butterflies, and have enjoyed incorporating this into our maths and literacy by learning about symmetry and reading, 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'.
On Fridays we take part in P.E lessons where we learn to move in different ways, follow instructions and use our own space and equipment safely and effectively. This term we are also taking part in swimming lessons with swimming instructors at the local leisure centre. On Wednesdays, we spend time with Mr Buxton-Dean in our outdoor learning environment. This is called 'Welly Wednesday'. On Thursdays we take turns to be 'Special Person' of the week where we share treasured items from home with the rest of the class. Finally, on Fridays, we bring in different fruits and vegetables for us all to taste during ' Fruity Friday'. We also bring in something special from home that we share and talk about during 'Show and Tell'.
Please keep an eye on our class page where we will regularly update photographs and information about what we have been learning in school!
